Took this last night at Boo at the Zoo. It's the best of a bunch of bad pics of the two of them. Ok, maybe not bad, but definitely disappointing. I'll try again either tomorrow or Friday.

Science Experiment Gone Wrong

What happens when the directions call for you to plant one or two bean seeds but you actually plant 10-15 in a little Dixie Cup?

Field Trip

Thomas had his first field trip last week. His class went to a local farm. It was a lot of fun. They got to feed and pet lots of different animals from ducks, rabbits and pigs to horses, goats and cows. We also went on a hay ride and the kids got to play a lot of neat games like this one. Jonathan was very impressed at Thomas' aim. The horseshoe in mid-air did make it into the bin.

While eating a pretzel snack the other afternoon, Thomas decided to spell some words on the carpet. His name and my name, phonetically.

Pumpkin Stroller

Jonathan: Ok, lady, we've got two problems here. One, the sun is in our eyes. And two, this pumpkin is in MY stroller and I don't like it!

This is the first cutout we stopped at at the pumpkin patch. Jonathan ran right up, stuck his head through, and smiled. He didn't stay long so this is the best pic I have, but I didn't even expect to get his head in there at all.

Bird Show

I don't know how we've missed this show in all the years we've been going to the State Fair but it was a lot of fun, especially for our bird crazy youngest child. This is the largest flying bird with a wing span of 9 feet. Cool huh?

Then Again Maybe Not

One of Thomas' parents let him feed the ostriches by hand. You'd think we would have known from the previous week at Fossil Rim that ostriches are agressive, but you'd be wrong. Thomas came running up to show me that the baby ostrich had bitten his hand while eating from it.

Fair Fun

Here's a pic of the boys waiting for the rides to open. We always get there before the fair officially opens for the day to try to beat the crowds. And it worked...for the first hour or two, but the last 4-5 were crazy! I liked all the colors in this shot even though I didn't love the shadows on their faces.

Fried Goodness

Each year, vendors at the State Fair try to come up with new and unique things they can batter and deep fry. This year, one of the most popular items is pictured above: chicken fried bacon. How was it? Pretty much like you'd imagine. It was actually a little dry and could have used some type of dipping sauce. We also tried Fire and Ice, another deep fried newbie. It was deep fried pineapple, topped with strawberries and whipped cream and some kind of dippin-dottyish vanilla ice cream. It was ok but not great. My very favorite thing was one that has been around for a few years. I'd just never tried it before: deep fried Twinkie. Imagine the yumminess that is a Twinkie dipped in a sweet batter and deep fried then topped with powdered sugar and for those of you who aren't nolongerlikingchocolate weirdos like me, chocolate sauce. Obviously I ordered mine without the sauce. But it was awesome. The cream filling was warm and oozy and delicious. Good thing the fair only comes around once a year!

What's Wrong With This Sign?

We went to the State Fair over the weekend and what picture do I post first? This annoying example of proofreading, or lack thereof. I tell you what Petting Zoo, I'll be even MORE responsible for my children than you were editing your signs!!

Hungry Animals

Many places in the park, we were all alone feeding animals, but the giraffe area was really crowded. While we were waiting for our turn, I took a shot or two.

This was one of Thomas' favorite things from the trip. This zebra peeked in before nibbling on the car while his buddy tried munching on my shirt as I was taking this pic.
