Rangers Captain

Saturday morning we were out in the cold watching Thomas in the Optimist baseball opening day parade. Not only was it cold, it was windy. Combine temps in the 30s with 20-30mph winds and it was freezing. How cold was it? Jonathan willingly stayed bundled in a blanket!

Rangers Captain marched in the parade and he came up to Jonathan, shared a high five, and then gave Jonathan his card.
That card was all Jonathan talked about the rest of the morning. When Thomas marched by, Jonathan kept yelling at him trying to show him his card. It was pretty darn cute.

Long Bubbles

We didn't have cool bubble things like this when I was a kid!

Serious Fun

I love Will's expressions...smiling or not.

Swinging

Finally figured out how to capture good swinging pics...a deeper depth of field and lots of shots. Love the silly face I captured on Sembree.

No Filter

Lisa wanted to know if using the circular polarizer made a difference. Here's a shot I took without it. Do you see one?

She also asked if I liked it. I don't usually use one. I tried it at the lake one day and that was a mistake. It took away all of the reflection from the water but that made it look like we were swimming in a mud puddle instead of an inviting lake :-) But in cases like this, I'm going to practice using it more and more.

Polarizer Practice

I really liked these lily pads and thought the fish looked really neat swimming under them but there were a lot of reflections in the water that distracted from the pic, and blocked the view of the fish in a lot of cases. I remembered I had my circular polarizer with me and decided to give it a shot...hee hee.

Four Tubby Friends

I wanted to steal Lisa's title for this pic, but I didn't. :-)

Silly Face?

Jonathan saying "Cheese!" while everyone else is deciding to do silly faces.

Jonathan: "What are you telling me to do instead?"

James: "Ok, Jonathan, watch and learn."

Jonathan: "Oooohhhh! Ok, I think I've got it."

Jonathan: "Is this it? Wait, whaddya mean we're going to smile pretty now?"

Four Reflection

Four friends watching something very fascinating in the water...on St. Paddy's Day. Can you tell? :-) You're going to see more of their green clothes before we're done!

Dallas Arboretum

I know I've already posted my shots for today but I couldn't wait to start posting some of my Dallas Blooms pics. Many more coming over the next few days.

Artistic Water Day

That's what I'm calling it anyway. I have two examples for your viewing pleasure. The first I took in line waiting in line to get Thomas from school on Friday. The water looked a little muddy so I tried converting it to black and white. Still didn't like the results until I went blue. This was taken with my waterproof Olympus because I didn't have my big Nikon with me and the Olympus was in my purse. Now that I think about it, BOTH of these shots were taken with my Olympus.
And for the second pic, what do you get when you give a waterproof digital camera to a bunch of 6-9 year olds at a swim party? Lots of shots that I had to immediately delete! :-) But I also ended up with some pretty neat ones like this.

Sprinkles Cupcake Bite

So how was it? Moist and delicious! Was it worth it? I'm going to say...no. Especially when you consider that on the opposite end of the metroplex, and even closer to my house, I can get a big slice of red velvet cake at the Swiss Pastry Shop for about 2 bucks. I wouldn't turn one of these down, but I'm not in any hurry to have another one.

Sprinkles Cupcakes

I bought two cupcakes: Green Velvet on the left (I love red velvet and this is their special St. Paddy's Day version) and Black and White on the right. Thought the boys would love that one, it was so cute it made me wish I still liked chocolate...sigh. Considering the line I stood in to buy them, I expected really big ones for three bucks, but they are just the size of regular cupcakes you can make at home. Were they worth it? Check back tomorrow to see.

Sprinkles Three Dollar Cupcakes

What do you get when you pay three dollars a piece for cupcakes? Well, for starters this cute box. :-)

Night Photography, part 1

Night photography is really fun. I would have liked to try more pictures but it was in the 30s and I was freezing!

Gma Light Saber Battle

Jonathan loves to battle with light sabers. He'll walk up to you, hand you one, and say, "Battle!" My grandma was a willing participant. How do you resist that cute two year old plea?

White Balance Tungsten

We discussed white balance the other night at my photography class and then went out to experiment. These were ordinary white lamps outside, but by changing the white balance to tungsten everything changes.

Holey Knees

All but two of Thomas' pants have holes in the knees. So frustrating! And it doesn't matter whether they're 10 dollar jeans from Walmart or 30 dollar Gap jeans. They still get holes!!

Happy Birthday Thomas!

Our big boy turned six today. Time flies!!! And can you believe this is the ONLY picture of his cake I took at the party? I ALWAYS photograph just the cake!

Kickoff

It's out of order, but Thomas did get to kick off first in their game. He was very excited about that.

Battle Scars

As soon as the game ended, Thomas HAD to show me his injury. He fell running after the ball and when he got up, did he take off running again? Nope, he stopped and checked both knees for boo-boos. I'm yelling, "You're fine! Now go get the ball!" But he had to make sure first, and then needed sympathy for it afterwards. ;-)

Breakaway, part 2

Doesn't this shot make you want to scream, "Kick it in the goal! It's wide open!!" It does me! He didn't score, but he didn't care. He was so happy to have had the ball at all. He dribbled about 20 feet before it was taken away and then turned around grinning at me and gave me a thumbs up.

Breakaway, part 1

Thomas had a breakaway at his first soccer game this season. He's never had anything like it before and if you look closely, you'll see that he's grinning from ear to ear.
